Allergy and Intolerance

The Dove Clinic Approach

The Dove Clinic is dedicated to the treatment of allergy and environmental illness. This type of illness is becoming increasingly common, as the rising incidence of asthma, hay fever and food intolerance attests.

Some people react clearly to foods or environmental substances leading to recurrent and sometimes delayed symptoms. Many illnesses have an environmental component, including:

  • Atopic allergy (asthma, hay fever, eczema)
  • Migraine
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Autism
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Ulcerative Colitis & Crohn’s Disease
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Multiple chemical sensitivity, where patients become exquisitely sensitive to a range of substances including food, chemicals and particulate inhalants may also occur.

Our Approach

We provide a holistic approach to treatment. This includes the avoidance of drug therapy where possible. Depending on each individual this may include dietary amendment and supplementation, elimination diet and challenge protocols, measurement and correction of environmentally triggered alterations in gut permeability and intestinal flora, use of proven methods of detoxification and measurement of specific biochemical pathways.

We have been dealing with patients with multiple food and chemical intolerance for many years .

[restrict …]FMT (Faecal Microbiome Transplant) has been our most successful approach to dealing with these life limiting intolerances. [/restrict]

Alopecia

Alopecia is an autoimmune condition. There is good evidence that autoimmune conditions relate to an abnormal gut Microbiome and working on that using diet and nutritional medicine in Alopecia can be helpful. There is anecdotal evidence that Alopecia has been helped using Faecal Microbiome replacement (FMT) as was evidenced in an American paper published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology Case Reports, reporting results from two patients with alopecia universalis who developed subsequent hair regrowth after being treated for Clostridium Difficile infection.

We have had considerable success with the use of Faecal Microbiome Transplantation in other autoimmune illnesses.  If you would like to find out more about FMT, please email us.

Dr Kenyon publishes new Faecal Microbiome Transplant research

A Retrospective Outcome Study of 42 Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, 30 of Whom had Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Half were treated with oral approaches, and half were treated with Faecal Microbiome Transplantation.

Abstract

The gut microbiome comprises the community of microorganisms in the intestinal tract. Research suggests that an altered microbiome may play a role in a wide range of disorders including myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).

Methods

42 participants with ME/ CFS with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) were allocated into one of two groups, 21 were treated with standard oral approaches, which centred around various nutritional remedies, probiotics, prebiotics, dietary advice and lifestyle advice. The second group who had mostly failed using oral approaches, were treated with Faecal Microbiome Transplantation (FMT). Each patient received 10 Implants, each from a different screened donor, and the Implants were processed under anaerobic conditions.

Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome

Post Viral Fatigue is a form of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Post Viral Fatigue is a chronic low grade in inflammatory response to infections, especially viral infections which are currently more common than they were, thus driving an increase in the incidence of CFS.

The Dove Clinic has many years of experience of treating this challenging condition, key treatments are directed at correcting the gut Microbiome.  Dr Julian Kenyon of The Dove Clinic has extensive experience in this area having seen many patients during the twenty years he has been at the Dove Clinic – and before that time too.  Click here for further information.

Telephone consultations are available to those living far away from our main clinic base in order to start the treatment process off.

Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon cleansing, also known as colonic irrigation or colonic hydrotherapy, involves flushing the colon with fluids to remove waste. Its benefits are based on the premise that digestive waste can be a toxin to the body.

It is a completely natural treatment that is provided to thousands of people every day from all walks of life. It may seem a little strange at first, but the more you learn about the treatment and its many benefits, the more you’ll find that it is a very normal and natural way to take care of your health and wellbeing.

Your first appointment will usually last about an hour and a half and will include a consultation, medical questionnaire and a full explanation of the equipment and procedure.

Our ARCH (Association of registered colonic hydrotherapists) qualified therapists have a friendly approach that helps us consider some of the possible causes of your digestive problems.  They may then suggest some positive changes you need to implement, in order to bring your lifestyle back into a natural balance with your body.

Following your consultation, the therapy itself takes around 45 minutes, during which modern, hygienic equipment gently cleanses your colon using warm filtered water, in a simple, dignified procedure.

Ozone – administered as Autohameotherapy

We use a method known as Ozone Autohaemotherapy. This is done using CE marked equipment from the Hansler Company in Germany. A small volume of blood is taken from the patient, mixed with Ozone and then re-infused into the patient, using a sterile, closed system. Specific doses of Ozone are given per unit volume of blood depending on the condition.

Acupuncture

We use acupuncture extensively in our clinic. Both classical acupuncture and in particular ear acupuncture in the form known as Auricular Therapy. In this approach it is possible to use the pulse in order to precisely locate organ targeted points on the ear. With this method it is possible to be accurate to within a few millimetres. This produces significant clinical benefits.

We use classical acupuncture mostly for painful conditions. We use disposable needles. Acupuncture is safe and effective.

Claire Wells

I am a qualified medical Hypnotherapist and trained in Psychodynamic counselling using a person-centered approach.

I deal with the day-to-day and immediate problems and challenges. I look at what is happening for you now and perhaps how your past experiences can be reframed.   I am always bothavailable and present through my professional practice.  For me it’s about working together using hypnotherapy and counselling imbued with empathy and compassion.  I understand it takes courage to ask for help.

I can help you through difficult times and to allay your fears, phobias and concerns. There are usually two parts of the brain at play which can result in unconscious conflict, which is why a combination of talking therapy and hypnotherapy is so successful.

I trained with the NCH where I received my Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, after qualifying as a counsellor in 2008.

My areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, eating disorders, OCD and Pure O, body dysmorphia, panic attacks, depression, adolescents, anger issues and phobias and addiction.

I am happy to have an initial chat over the phone to find out what a person may need from the therapeutic process.

Qualifications
Diploma in Psychotherapy – Distinction, Open College 2008 (DipPsych)

Hypnotherapy (NCH) certificate of achievement by NCFE. Level 4 Certificate of achievement by the UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences, accredited by the NCH and National Guild of Hypnotherapy for Clinically Advanced Hypnotherapy (DipCAH).

Cancellation Policy: Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will carry a 100% cancellation fee.

Fees:

Initial Consultation £75.00

During the initial consultation I will carry out an in-depth assessment to find out what your needs are and how I will best support you. A brief health history is carried out to ensure I can provide you with a tailored treatment plan and a suggested time frame for future sessions. I will also thoroughly explain the treatment process (approximately 1 hour)

Hypnotherapy sessions £85.00

Further sessions are tailored to suit your needs and are a blend of psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. The aim of these sessions is to further help you understand how the brain works in relation to your health needs, and to create a positive path or a ‘road map’ to bring about long-lasting changes. The number of sessions needed varies from client to client and this will be discussed during the Initial Consultation. (Approximately 1 hour)

Hypnotherapy sessions under 16s £65.00

As outlined above, but with a discount available for clients under the age of 16. (Approximately 1 hour)

Stop Smoking £160.00

A double session where we will spend time exploring your reasons for wanting to stop smoking and how/why you began. I will conduct a short medical questionnaire and look at what hasn’t worked for you in the past. We pull together the information and, alongside neuroscience and scientific research, look at the role our mind plays not only in trying to keep us in that habit of smoking, but more importantly, how we can train our mind to become a non-smoker. This session incorporates psychotherapy as well as hypnotherapy and ends with a tailored session to consolidate all of the work we have done together.
